| EncapsGallery Cross-Site Scripting and File Upload | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Thomas Pollet has discovered a vulnerability and a security issue in EncapsGallery, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks and by malicious users to compromise a vulnerable system. 1) Input passed to the "search" parameter in search.php is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user"s browser session in context of an affected site. 2) The "file_upload()" function in core/misc.class.php does not restrict extensions of uploaded files to the "rwx_gallery" directory under the webroot. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary PHP code via uploaded PHP scripts. Successful exploitation of the vulnerability requires valid administrator credentials. The vulnerability and the security issue are confirmed in version 2.0.2. Other versions may also be affected. Solution: Update to version 2.0.4, which fixes vulnerability #1. Grant administrative access to trusted users only. Provided and/or discovered Thomas Pollet | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
